The book is about two men who works on ranches in California. The two men are Lennie and George. They have been friends since they were just two little boys. Lennie loves to pet animals, but he is to strong, and to stupid, så he always end up with killing them.The book begins in California by the Salinas river, when Lennie and George found a place to sleep for the night. When they are there they both talk about theire American Dream. They dream about having their own farm with chikkens, cows and rabbits, because Lennie loves rabbits. George is a smart guy, så he tells Lennie: "If you get in truble, you go straight back here, right?" Some days later they arrived a ranch, where they later got a job, but after a while Lennie gets in tuble. Hi killed some one. So he goes back to the river and hides in the bushes. By then George had given up on their American Dream, but Lennie had not. When George went to find him, and they both where back on the same place, it all had changed.
The first time they where by the river they both belived in the American Dream, and they had something to look forward to. The second time, George no longer belived in their American Dream, and had given up all hope. What I am trying to say is that dream are not reality, and it can be dangerous to dream so much that you live in it. You will get hurt when you realize that you are not living in a dream, but in reality.
